REDLINE READY TO ROCK TO THE RUMBLE OF LATE MODEL SEDANS

Redline Raceway, Ballarat this Saturday night hosts the start of the long anticipated Victoria vs South Australia Shootout after weather last Saturday night curtailed events at Murray Bridge & thus handing over home track advantage to the Vic’s to get the inaugural Shootout underway.

The joint venture between the Late Model Racing Victoria Inc. & the South Australian Late Model Association groups will pit state against state, mate against mate when up to fifteen race cars arrive Saturday night at the Mountain top venue.

LMRV have secured support for this round from ‘Forte Engineering’ & drivers will be racing for a little extra cash on top of their series agreement monies when each driver competes in two out of three ten lap heats to qualify for the twenty lap feature.

The Victorians have an eight car squad nominated to compete with the following drivers:
Danny Amato V0
Justin Pearson V10
Chevy Edwards AX21
Gary Bryans V26
Michael Hetherington V40
Graham Forte 7F
Fiona Verhoeven V8
Wayne Belk V32

Pearson is in form, winning last Friday night at Tolmer Speedway in Bordertown South Australia and after practicing much of the off season at Redline is pretty confident of a strong showing, whilst Amato, Hetherington & Belk are practically locals at the venue and will be keen to make a stand in front of family & friends at the very quick Redline venue.

Forte has many years racing experience in a variety of divisions and performed strongly in his races last season and will be one to keep an eye on as will Gary Bryans whom over the last ten years is probably Victoria’s’ most experienced driver with many trips up to Sydney to compete, more often than not finishing amongst the front runners.

Chevy Edwards continues to gain valuable experience in the big horsepower machines having stepped up from 1200cc Junior Sedan racing last season & Fiona Verhoeven a former starlet of the Modified Sedan division has had a recent hit out in her new car at Premier Speedway & for more reasons than any is keen to run well after her brother Neville passed away Tuesday.

The South Australian squad is six cars strong with the following race drivers:
Luke Raymond S5
Darryle Launer 21S
Matt Nulty 29S
Steve Vaughan S67
Stuey Hill 84B
Mat Crimmins S10

The South Australians have been running Late Models under their South Australian Late Model Association (SALMA) for eight years now & have some very experienced campaigners. All the drivers are more than capable of podium finishes, if not the win especially Raymond, Vaughan & Crimmins who had a win early in the season at Adelaide.

Throw into the mix a lone New South Wales visitor Scott McPherson in the N7 car and he could just upset the grand plans of all by taking out the win. McPherson is a strong performer up north and has his sights set on spoiling the party on Saturday night.

Late Model Racing Victoria encouraged everybody to come and see the show & afterwards visit drivers in the pits to get a close up of the machines and maybe an autograph or two.

You can get involved with the association by contacting either Rod Edwards the President on 0427 837 385, Justin Pearson the Vice President on 0408 356 729 or Lisa Edwards the Secretary on 0427 007 907.

SALMA SET TO LAUNCH INTO NEW SEASON

As many tracks have commenced their seasons, or about to start, the South Australian Late Model boys have been busy preparing their equipment for the season ahead which will see a couple of new drivers join the Late Model section this summer.

The season will kick off at Adelaide’s Speedway City on November 1 in support to the Australian Sprintcar Masters. The following week will see the first of the Victorian events of the summer at the Blue Ribbon Raceway in Horsham. A week later sees the opening round of the SALMA Series at the picturesque Borderline Speedway at Mt Gambier. The following two weekends at Murray Bridge and Ballarat will see the first two rounds of the State Shootout between the SA and Victorian cars. This is to entice more interaction between the two states and will be worth watching.

December will see no racing on to give the guys a rest and retune in time for the Australian Late Model Championship in Kingaroy Qld in the first three days of 2015.
January will see shows at Whyalla, Renmark & Waikerie with the latter two being on the Australia Day Weekend and the running of the Riverland Cup.

The second round of the SALMA Series will take place on the first weekend in February at Renmark. Three weeks later the Late Models will make their first appearance of the season at Timmis Speedway in Mildura on February 28, they will also be at the Sunraysia track on March 21 (SALMA Round 3) & the Easter Weekend for the Mildura Easter 5000. In between that on the March long weekend the SALMA guys will be running at two high speed places in the form of Mt Gambier and Warrnambool. The guys will be looking forward to getting to the nation’s fastest racetrack.

The final three SALMA rounds will be held at Murray Bridge, Mildura (as mentioned) plus the Series final at Speedway City.

The equipment this season will second to none with several drivers set to debut new cars come November 1 at Speedway City should they be ready in time.

The drivers due to be on track this season include Mat Crimmins, who will be back in the #10 Rocket Chassis, and has done a rework of their transporter. The striking green machine will stand out on track, along with a couple of Mastersbilt Chassis that will be piloted by Darryle Launer #21 and Luke Dodding #89. Steve Vaughan will debut a new Dominator Chassis #67, Matt Nulty will debut a new Lewis chassis, and has already turned in some fast laps around Murray Bridge in late September in the #29 machine. Stuey Hill will be back in the #84 car this season after a big engine blow up last season, while V8 Dunlop Series regular Cameron Waters will be back in the #98 Enzed machine, and has extended his trailer this summer. The return of the McCarthy boys this summer will no doubt be great as Mark & Cary contest the majority of the races this season. Andrew Leach also has a new livery and will debut that in late November. Luke Raymond will debut a new Rocket chassis. After totalling the car at the Victorian Title last season he will also unveil a new livery which im sure will look spectacular. Zack Tyson from Mildura will also enter the Late Model ranks this summer after purchasing the ex Crimmins Warrior. Tyson is moving up after competing in the Wingless Sprint division last season. Ex V8 Dirt Modified racer Beau Seidel has almost finished his new Rocket Chassis and should be on track soon. Tony Howlett also has a new machine purchased off David Hartman which is also another Rocket Chassis.

SALMA is currently seeking sponsorship for the State Title at Waikerie as well as the two day meeting in Mildura so if you know of anyone who might be interested in this give us a call.

The guys at SALMA are revved up and ready for a new season which is two weeks away at Speedway City we look forward to seeing all the racefans there. For a full season schedule visit www.salma.com.au

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN RACERS FIND WEST COAST RACING TOUGH
SALMA President Mat Crimmins (#S10) loaded up his race team and headed across to Western Australia in late December to contest the 3 Round 'Wild West Tour' Late Model Series as a lead up to the Australian Title being held at Bunbury Speedway on January 11/12. Crimmins found the going tough in the 'Wild West Tour' Series (Perth Motorplex December 26/27, Manjimup Speedway December 29, Collie Speedway January 5) where he started all three A Mains but failed to finish any, and had a 6th place finish in the B Dash of night 2 at the Motorplex to show as his best result. Fellow South Australian racer Luke Raymond (#S5) joined the Series at Collie where he also failed to finish the A Main after sustaining front end damage. Both teams moved on to Bunbury Speedway the following weekend for the National Title where Raymond recorded a 6th and 4th in night 1 Heat action before retiring in Preliminary A Main 1. Sadly for the Raymond team they would take no further part in the title, forced to park the car with mechanical problems. Crimmins enjoyed a solid Australian Title campaign, that started with a 2nd and 5th in night 1 Heats, and a 5th place finish in Preliminary A Main 2. Finishing night 1 9th in points (out of 33 competitors) Crimmins was in a good position, and despite a DNF in his Final Heat, was one of the top 16 to transfer directly to the 40 lap A Main. A 5th place in the B Dash saw Crimmins start mid pack in the A Main, and despite a car that was a little 'loose', he worked hard to salvage a 10th place finish.

Young NSW racer Ben Nicastri is the new South Australian Late Model Champion after a determined drive in the 25 lap A Main held at Borderline Speedway Mt Gambier Saturday December 1. Nicastri's victory did not come easy, after he crashed out of Heat 1 and missed the next Heat while the damage was repaired. Forced to start off the back of the 10 car A Main field after a 2nd place in his final Heat, Nicastri worked his way to the front in a gutsy drive to claim his first major Late Model title. Steve Vaughan, who has been super consistent in his debut Late Model season, finished 2nd after leading late in the race, with Luke Raymond 3rd. Matthew Nulty made his Late Model debut and finished a sensational 4th. Heat winners were Luke Raymond (2), Ross Nicastri (2), Cary McCarthy, and Steve Vaughan. Ross Nicastri lead most of the A Main before being passed by Steve Vaughan, who in turn fell to a bold high line pass by race winner Ben Nicastri. Speaking to Kerry Hill from the Borderline Speedway club, she, and the committee, are very excited to be holding the event, as they can see the class is on the move with more cars coming into South Australia, as well as Victoria gaining numbers also. The Borderline Speedway club really want to be actively involved in making Late Models grow in South Australia and Victoria and what better way to make this happen than holding the biggest event on the Late Model calendar.

Mat Crimmins from SALMA is also excited about having the title at Borderline, with a massive field of Late Models on Borderline's little banked clay bullring something not to be missed, he said. SALMA will work extremely close with the Borderline Speedway committee to make this event something not to be missed. More information will follow, but to have the event announced so early it will give all of the teams around Australia plenty of time to make plans. With the division so big in WA, and NSW having a big surge in numbers this year, along with SA, VIC, and QLD on the rise, this could be the biggest Australian Title yet.

Stay tuned for more information and get to your local track to watch the awesome Late Models in action .

Round 2 of the Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SALMA Series was contested at Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) Saturday November 10 and it was another new face picking up the winners trophy in the Feature. Stuey Hill enjoyed several drives in the Crimmins Racing lease car last season, and liked the experience so much he purchased the car. The seat time obviously paid dividends for Hill, as he claimed his maiden Feature win in the division at Murray Bridge. As if to prove a point, Hill cut a lap one second faster than his rivals on his final tour of the high bank track. The SALMA season for 2011/12 was finalised at Mildura in late April. Since then the Crimmins Racing team has conducted a sponsor day at Waikerie Speedway (Saturday May 5) that also saw well known Speedway Sedan racer Cary McCarthy turn some laps in his new Late Model. McCarthy's son Mark will also be seen in a Late Model next season. Mark will be at the wheel of a Craig Vosbergen Rocket that is being imported from the US. A further two Late Models are on the way from the US, which will boster the SALMA ranks in 2012/13. The Final Round (8) of the Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SALMA Series for season 2011/12 will be held at The Edge Hotel Motel Timmis Speedway Mildura (VIC) Saturday April 21. Late Models last raced at Timmis Speedway less than a fortnight ago in the big $10,000 to win race, but it is a significantly smaller field that will take the green flag this weekend. The Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SALMA Series has been very competitive, and despite the low car count for the Final Round, the on track action is expected to be just as good. Of the five drivers entered the only not to have won a Feature race in the 2011/12 Series is Stuart Hill in the Crimmins Racing lease car. Hill showed some good form at the Mildura Easter meeting and will be looking to continue that on Saturday evening.  SALMA Members are very appreciative of the support of Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils throughout the season. The entry list for Round 8 of the Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SALMA Series reads :

Only two made it through to the 35 lap A Main with Darren Forrest bringing a battle scarred V055 Rocket home in 11th with Mat Crimmins finishing 14th in his S10 Lewis machine. Crimmins won a Heat, while Forrest finished 3rd in another. US racer Steve Francis was victorious in the title in a tight finish from WA racers Jamie Oldfield and Michael Holmes.

MCPHERSON IS SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION FOR SECOND TIME
Long time Late Model racer Scott McPherson is the South Australian Champion for the second time after claiming the title at Borderline Speedway Mount Gambier (SA) Saturday December 3. McPherson (N7 Rocket) won the inaugural South Australian Late Model title held in the 2008/09 season. The Canberra based Better Trailers proprietor started out of position three in the 11/12 title, and lead the Crimmins Racing machines of Mat Crimmins (S10) and Robbie Faux (S64) past the flag after 20 hard laps. It was a great result for Crimmins Racing as well, with Mat Crimmins having experienced plenty of early season car problems, while Milduras Robbie Faux has adjusted to Late Model racing in fine style, finishing on the podium in the state title in only his third meeting at the wheel of the lease car. The performance of Faux is even more noteworthy, given that he started from position six. Victoria's Rod Edwards (V21) started from eight, and climbed through the field to place fourth. The remaining finishers were David Hartman (S15), Michael Ffrench (S24), and Darren Forrest (V055), who was competing in his first Late Model race meeting. For complete results click here.

HARTMAN WINS AT MURRAY BRIDGE
David Hartman (S15) put aside early season engine issues to claim an all-the-way victory in the Feature race at Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) Saturday November 26. The event was Round 2 of the Scotcher Race Fuels & Oils SALMA Series. Hartman also won a Heat earlier in the program. Luke Raymond (S5) won the first Heat, and chased Hartman to the line in the Feature. Robbie Faux, driving the Crimmins Racing S64 Warrior lease car, finished third in the Feature. There was plenty of action throughout the night, with Michael Ffrench (S24) and Mat Crimmins (S10) being involved in an incident in Heat 1 that saw Crimmins collect the wall, while Ffrench retired with body damage. Daniel Timberlake (V11) recorded a good 2nd placing in Heat 1 but then had to park the car with undetermined engine issues. Crimmins and Ffrench both retired in the Feature, Crimmins after a universal joint broke in the rear end, while French spun twice and parked the car infield. SALMA wishes to acknowledge the contribution of Mick Lewis and John McKay for their assistance on the infield. Click here for complete results.

Stuart Hill, driving the Crimmins Racing #64 Warrior lease car, placed second in both Heats, and the Feature. Michael Ffrench, in his first Late Model race meeting, debuted his #24 in style with victory in Heat 1. A split pin fell out of a shock in Heat 2, but he recovered to claim third place in the Feature. Luke Raymond had a difficult night, despite winning Heat 2, with differential problems in Heat 1, and a DNF in the Feature. David Hartman (#15) failed to start Heat 1 and took no further part in proceedings when engine issues intervened. Click here for full results.

“The plan with Late Models Australia is to hold a face-to-face meeting of Member organisations at the Australian title, with phone hook ups implemented as deemed necessary”.

“I feel really privileged to be the President of Late Models Australia for its inaugural term. We have a wealth of experience in the serving Executive and Committee, which only augers well for the division moving forward”.
